Everyday Advocates truly understand the what, how, and why of their teaching:
- They have a deep understanding of the content of their discipline/grade level
- They are knowledgeable about the research base that underlies that content.
- They add to that knowledge through their own teacher research, asking questions about their practice and engaging in systematic investigations in their own classrooms.
- They know how to connect research and practice
How to get there: While there are many resources available about literacy and literacy education, one place to start or continue this journey is by viewing NCTE position statements and policy research briefs. These short guides cite pertinent and current research on a number of topics and connect that research to classroom practice. In addition books like those in the Principles in Practice Imprint show in detail classrooms that are influenced by those statements.
